Community Leadership Institute Applications Due January 11: NRP Scholarships Still Available

NRP is pleased to be providing generous scholarships for potential and proven neighborhood leaders for the University of St. Thomas Center for Nonprofit Management's Community Leadership Institute.

Created by NRP in collaboration with the Metropolitan Alliance for Community Centers (MACC) and introduced for the first time in spring 2001, the Community Leadership Institute (CLI) is a certificate program designed to provide comprehensive leadership training to neighborhood volunteers and community organization staff. The Community Leadership Institute is designed to develop and strengthen community leadership skills through two 12-week semesters at the University of St. Thomas.

The NRP will provide a scholarship for up to 80 percent of tuition for one or both semesters of the Community Leadership Institute. To qualify for the scholarship, you must meet the membership requirements for a Minneapolis neighborhood organization recognized by the NRP and have your application approved by the NRP.

Your neighborhood organization can also choose to pay for some or all of the remaining tuition. These expenses are an eligible expense for your neighborhood's NRP administration funds (call your neighborhood specialist, or the NRP main line at 612-673-5140). Your tuition expenses may also be an eligible expense for your neighborhood's Citizen Participation funds (call Bob Cooper at 612-673-5239 for more information). Also, limited scholarships are available through the Community Leadership Institute.

People participating in the first level of the program will attend Tuesday evening classes from January 25, 2005 through April 19, 2005. Level 2 of the institute, which is open to those who have completed Level 1, begins Thursday, January 27, 2005 and continues for 12 Thursday night sessions through April 21. All classes are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m and will be held on the University of St. Thomas Campus in Downtown Minneapolis, located at 1000 LaSalle Avenue
